Last.fm and the statistics

I don't know what kind of algorithms last.fm uses for the similar artists radio, but it must be somehow based on Bayesian statistics (what else?) and some tags. I have tuned into "Similar music to Zero 7" which I really love, but my ears were bleeding. I liked maybe 5% of the music, that was played and it ranged from pop, indie, rap, rock! Zero 7 would rather be tagged electronic or lounge. This is one of the reasons, I stopped using this service and chose to tune into some real webradio stations which are dedicated to a certain style. I can really recommend

Blogger.com down?

So all of you little webdevelopers don't have to be ashamed when you mess some things up, by a new supercool little script which ends up being the total killer for your server. This happens also to the big ones. Blogspot.com was down for quite some time now, so I am happy that I'm here at TypePad.

Upcoming.org bought by Yahoo

Ok, it seems like Yahoo is making some clever decisions lately. Obviously Web 2.0 sites and humanization, folksomony, Zeitgeist and social software are more then just buzzwords. In the future they will become more and more important for business as well. I'm a little bit afraid, that the social component might get lost when big players like Yahoo and Google get their hands on those sites, but since Google got very powerful I'm happy that Yahoo is gaining importance in comparison to we-want-to-control-the-world-even-though-we-are-not-evil-Google. MSN doesn't seem to play a significant role anymore.

Lately I found an extremely interesting site, which combines many great ideas in functionality (event planning, networking, hobby sharing, venues, organization). It looks like to be in beta phase, so some things might still change in the future. Let's see when Google or MSN buy this one..
